Post Notice: Forum Server Move - PLEASE READ

Hi everyone,

I like to announce that we are going to be moving our servers in the next few days. We have already started copying files between servers.. as a result you may experience some forum slowdown, until the copying is finished. We apologize for that.

Once the servers are moved, there maybe disruption of service for perhaps a day, as the domain name servers adjust, and we work out server move bugs. We mot likely will splash a message on the forums, and disable the forums for that day, so that any of your new posts will not be lost.

The good news is that once we have moved servers, we will have much better control over the applications, and can satisfy upgrade requests that have already been made.

Thank you for your patience as this much needed move happens. I will keep you posted of the progress.

Regards,

steve

The long anticipated forum move is planned to start later tonight. I plan to disable log-on to the forums, so that there would be no changes to the data being moved. I am hoping things can be wrapped out by Friday at the latest. I will keep this support forum open in the meantime.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi,

As you know, we are diligently working thru the problems that resulted from the sever move. The fact of the matter is that the domain was transferred to the new server before everything was tested and verified. That caused a huge number of problems, which we are now working thru. Current problems mostly relate to performance.

Many of you lost about 9 days of posts. I have restored the old posts for anyone who contacted. That is a LOT of work, but then it is our responsibility to you.

I have turned off chat until performance comes back up.

Thank you very much for your infinite patience. Please hang in there as we fix the issues.

I have turned chat back on. We will see how it goes. Right now, the forums are behaving nicely. Working on fixing the attachment view bug :)

We had great performance last night :) This morning we experienced high load and low performance again :ugeek: There are simply too many users on the system..

So we have ordered another server on an emergency basis. It will be delivered later on today, and we will be working thru the night to bring it online.

I had turned chat on, but turned it off again, to reduce load.

Loss of data: There would be no loss of data... it is just that we are increasing processing power on the server.

Current issues:
-there is a 'last post' button issue.
-the attachments - don't worry, they are not lost, simply not accessible - I will work on the code to make them work again AFTER the server performance is fixed.

Thank you again for your patience,

steve

I have turned off search engine incoming traffic as well as search engine spiders for now, to give our users a better response. It seems to have helped (not perfect, but better than before), while we are working to bring an extra server online.

We have just added a high performance server to forums-free. We are distributing the load to this server. Don't worry, this does not result in loss of data... just that things like smilies would be served from that server, making things faster overall.

We are taking the forums offline today from 3-6 PM PST for adding a new server. This should make the forums load faster! You will not have any loss of data as a result (no worries).

The attachments are now working, although I have not tried posting them, just viewing them.

Forums is going OFFLINE tomorrow Sunday for adding the new server. We did not quite finish the work yesterday, so we like to have some time on Sunday to do a quality job and do all the testing necessary. We expect the forums to be really fast after that :D
