Post How can I make the system faster?
Well, there's some simple ways.

  1. Forum logs
  2. Attachments
  3. Images
  4. Files
  5. Home-made layouts, HTML and CSS combined codes

1. Forum Logs

Forum logs usually fills up the entire database fast.
It contains: Administrator actions, Moderator actions (moving topics, deleting etc.), User actions (Change password, mail, update profile), and Error logs (login-errors, and other errors such as SMTP (Send mail)).

To prune these, go to:

Administrator Control Panel > Maintenance

These should be frequent deleted, about every 7 days (not more than that).

2. Attachments

Attachments should be placed as a link, rather than a directly attachment.
Having a filehosting account elsewhere, would be great.
Also think about the size that You're uploading.
If You're uploading fx. 50 MB then it will make the system slower, than if it was 5 MB.
So think about the size You're uploading, it CAN kill the servers.

3. Images

The images You're uploading should be as little as possible, then link to a bigger image, when they're clicking on the image.
The image should be what we call a "Thumbnail", maximum 100x100 pixels.
Further more, do NOT place forum-images on all the forums on Your board, this will make the servers slower than ever!

I've found one user who has done that, and for me, it's not acceptable.
I will report forums, which is filled up with forum-images.

4. Files

All files that should be attached to an post, should be located externally.
And there are files, which are not acceptable on this system:

Music, Videos, CD/DVD rips ( .ISO ) and Archives ( .RAR, .ZIP, .7z, .TAR, .TAR.GZ etc)

5. Home-made layouts, HTML and CSS combined codes

No, I'm not talking about templates/themes, but users who has placed fx. snow on their forum, as background styling.
Also users who has placed a huge background image, which is in HD quality.

These ways are not acceptable, and I will report those forums, which has the mentioned things on their boards.

So watch out, users are also resource to the servers, acting slow!

Also, You can make it fast er by setting maximum allowed image in signature either to 90x90 px, or completely deactivate images in signature.

I've seen many forums where the user's signature-image are as big as 500x500 px, and that is TOO LARGE!
The images are loaded every damn time You read a post, and it counts as an connection, and it's pulling off the speed.
Make the image as little as possible.

Also in-post all images should be made as a thumbnail, and somehow a link or attachment to a larger image.
Thumbnails should also be maximum 90x90 px.
My avatar is 90x90 px approximately, everything larger than that is too big.
